What’s your favourite part of working within the sales team at Bibby?

Probably the flexibility. I like that I can be in the office on day, at home the next, and out visiting a client the next. It also offers a great work-life balance.

What gets you most excited about coming to work?

I think that when I’m in the middle of a deal and I know I’ll be working closely with my team, who I get on with really well, to finish it off and send it into sanctioning- those are the days where I’m most excited to get to work.

Have you built relationships with your colleagues on the Academy that you think will continue in your career?

Definitely- already I have called people up who I met while on rotations to ask for their advice on things. There are some great people who really know their stuff.

What’s your favourite part of working within the sales team at Bibby?

Being a part of the day to day sales process and getting to go out and meet the corporate clients that I have been working with. Also the main thing for me is no 2 days are the same in this business.

What have you enjoyed most about the Sales Academy

Moving around each department and seeing how they function to complete the BFS product we are offering to our clients and prospects.

Would you do it again knowing what you know now?

Yes but I would definitely reconsider the Apprenticeship aspect as the BMS stuff just seems very repetitive and you can learn more of the skills they want you to learn, from actually being hands on with working in the business.

Tell me in just a few sentences about you and what you like most about the Sales Academy

Hi I’m Phil and I’m one of the Sales Executives based in the Manchester Office. Personally, I’ve enjoyed travelling round the country and meeting each team individually but also learning and getting involved at the same time.

What were your first thoughts when you heard about the sales academy opportunity at Bibby Financial Services?

My first thoughts were that it’s a great opportunity to help me develop myself professionally and also learn more about the commercial finance sector. I liked the idea of working for a company that had multiple offices around the country and that was a very popular name within the financing community.

What’s your favourite part of working within the sales team at Bibby?

My favourite part of working within the sales team is how involved I am in a variety of deals from export to foreign exchange to basic factoring. I’ve enjoyed having the responsibility and taking part in deals from start to finish. It’s also been great to go out and meet new clients and begin to understand their needs and where we can help them grow.

What would you tell someone considering joining the Sales Academy for 2022?

Go for it, it’s an exciting and challenging step but you’re supported fully the whole way


Training

1. BFS Induction Event

You will virtually meet and interact with other new starters at BFS, network and engage with key stakeholders from across different parts of the business, and obtain an overview of what’s it’s like to work at BFS, our products and services, and establish the systems and tools we have available to support you as you start your journey with us….

2. Insights Discovery profiling

Insights Discovery is a powerful profiling tool that can unlock the secrets to understanding ourselves and others better. You will complete this profiling to support your individual performance, and also your wider teams development within the workplace. This increased awareness of personal preferences enables more respectful, productive and positive working relationships, even across virtual boundaries.

3. BFS Sales Programme

This internal programme consists of 5 key modules to provide you the skills and tools you need to successfully develop in your sales function, engage customers and progress in your role. Key topics covered are: Products, Financials, Legal & KPCs, Risk Framework and Selling Skills.

4. Rotations

You will be actively working within the different areas of the business on a rotation to gain an understanding of all of our Products and Services, providing you with the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to become a high performing sales person. The rotations will be held in the following locations: Banbury, Brentwood, Basingstoke, Manchester & Leicester

5. UK Finance Accreditations

UK Finance is the collective voice for the banking and finance industry. They offer fantastic courses for newcomers to the invoice finance and asset based lending industry who wish to gain industry knowledge.

BFS will enrol you onto the UK Finance IFABL Foundation course as part of your training, and following completion of this you will have the opportunity to further your knowledge and learning by completing the IFABL Certificate course.

I joined Bibby Financial Services on the sales academy program in 2016 and have thoroughly enjoyed working for this global business over the past 6 years.

Joining Bibby on the sales academy gave me a great opportunity to gain knowledge and experience across core areas of the organization. The program was set out over 12 months and consisted of rotations around the business with an aim to develop my business knowledge, technical skill and professional behaviours required to excel in the industry.

I was fortunate to spend time with key stakeholders from Business Development and Operations. This enabled me to build theoretical and practical knowledge on the products and services the business offer and the operational processes within Sales, onboarding, Underwriting, Client Management and Risk.

The Sales Academy followed a structured rotation across multiple areas of our UK business which included; Commercial, Corporate, Construction, Recruitment, International (Export), Trade and Foreign Exchange. These rotations provided a great opportunity to meet my colleagues across the business while taking on valuable information which would later support my career progression. In addition, it gave me the opportunity to integrate and imbed into the amazing “Bibby Culture” this business has.

I completed the Sales academy and was promoted to be a Business Development Executive based in our London and South East team. 5 months later I was promoted to become a Business Development Manager and have been a consistent top performer over the past 4 years for the business. This year I have been promoted to join our corporate team as a Corporate Manager in the South and look forward to continuing my career with Bibby.

I am thankful for the opportunity the business gave me to be a part of the Sales Academy and I look forward to welcoming the new Sales Academy of 2022.
